be a
Legislative Intern!
Jr. and High School Students, would you like to get involved with the legislative branch of our government?
You can do exactly that by serving in WCFS’ Family Heritage Matters program as a Legislative Intern!
Family Heritage Matters is the Legislative/Regulatory Watchdog arm of WCFS.
FHM monitors all Bills passing through the Maryland General Assembly during their 90 day session each spring, and keeps an eye on the activity of the Maryland State Department of Education and Code of Maryland Regulations year-round.
FHM depends heavily in on student interns to operate. Usually we need at least 2 or 3.
The Legislative Interns:
Review all legislation.
Report any findings of concern to WCFS staff.
Potentially submit testimonies for bills.
Potentially attend hearings on occasion.
Students who serve as Legislative Interns receive numerous benefits, such as:
training to read bills
training to report to WCFS staff
opportunity to submit testimonies
opportunity to testify at hearings
opportunity for Academic Credit (by incorporating their internship into their Applied Citizenship or Christian Service courses)
The requirements for serving as an Intern are:
Access to internet and an account on the MD General Assembly website.
Attending the ‘Legislative Training Day’
Reading all new Bills each week.
Reporting each week on Bills of concern. Reports must include the Bill’s:
number and a synopsis of it’s contents,
hearing schedule
progress
